The foundation for Richard J. King, Inc. was laid when Dick King left for a month-long vacation to Florida and ended up staying for four years. In the time Dick was in Florida he and his crew of over 50 men built more than 4,400 apartment units and homes in the Tampa, St. Pete, Orlando, and Clearwater areas.

In the early seventies, Dick King and his family returned to Maine and began anew based out of Lamoine in Hancock County. Continuing in construction and general contracting, by 1975 he had added excavation to his services, and began building log homes in 1976. Richard J. King, Inc. became an incorporated business in 1978, and has been providing unbeatable quality service in the area ever since as a general contractor delivering a broad range of services and products, and as a builder and dealer of over 400 quality log homes.
